Raising
Gas Tax Okay to Most Candidates
Lobbyists continued to press political candidates for their support
of Highway 312 funding during a meeting last Thursday at Chaska
City Hall. Of the six candidates at the Southwest Corridor Transportation
Coalition forum, five said they would consider a gas tax increase
for transportation funding. District 34A House Republican candidate
Paul Kohls said a transportation funding increase “can be
done without raising the gas tax...”
Prefers Sperling's Education
Stance
In January the new Minnesota legislature will have
some very tough decisions to make that will not be able to be fixed
by temporary spending from budget reserves. Among the many issues
the new legislature will have to face, none could divide people
as much as the issue of education...
Secure with Sperling’s
Credits
This coming November we have a new choice for the
Minnesota House of Representatives.
Sue Sperling is a dynamic go-getter. Sue is packed with energy

introduced Sue to thousands of citizens in Chanhassen and Chaska.
Sue’s charisma has allowed her to recruit men, woman and children
for events like the 4th of July parade in Chanhassen and River City
Days in Chaska. Sue has run her campaign vigorously and she will
run her legislative office the same way...
Sperling has the Ability

Capitol this year in light of the failure of a proposed transportation
funding package during the 2002 session.
"Although hopes were high that the Legislature and the Governor
would finally begin to deal with growing congestion and highway
safety, when the gavel fell to end the session there was no transportation
funding bill," explained Dick Hansen, Alliance President...
Bus
systems reeling after legislative session
The Minnesota Public Transit Association
(MPTA) is warning bus riders that the results of the recent legislative
session will leave many Minnesotans with reduced service or higher

Editorial:
Heavy traffic / Transportation goes to the voters
Contrary to TV sound bites, the Legislature's abject failure on
transportation was less about higher gasoline taxes than a far larger
question: What kind of Twin Cities and, by extension, what kind
of state should Minnesota be in 20 years?...
Paul
M. Weyrich: Why conservatives should back Northstar line
Minnesota House Republicans who oppose the Northstar commuter rail
project need to be reminded that commuter rail is a conservative's
best option. Why? Because conservatives are the best shepherds of
public funds, conservatives will use commuter rail, and conservatives
know that commuter rail spawns economic development...
Legislative Roadblocks
At the start of the 2002 legislative session, civic leaders throughout
southwest Minnesota delivered a tough message to local legislators:
Failure to pass a transportation funding bill that would allow construction
of a new Highway 212 to begin in 2004 would define the entire session
as just that, a failure...
